Knicks Defeat Pelicans 104-93
The New York Knicks demonstrated resilience and determination on Saturday, December 21, 2024, overcoming an early deficit to secure a 104-93 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center. The win extended the Knicks' streak to three games and further solidified their position in the standings with an 18-10 record.
Early Struggles Continue for the Knicks
As has been a recurring trend this season, the Knicks found themselves struggling to contain the Pelicans’ offense. Trailing by as much as 14 points in the third quarter, New York appeared out of sync, particularly with Karl-Anthony Towns limited by foul trouble. The team failed to capitalize on crucial opportunities to cut into the deficit and build momentum.
Brunson Burner Activated!
The tide turned thanks to the captain, Jalen Brunson, who delivered a phenomenal master class performance. Scoring a season-high 39 points (29 of them in a masterful second half) Brunson carried the offensive load and made clutch play after clutch play down the stretch. His critical three-pointer late in the third quarter gave the Knicks the lead, and they never looked back. Brunson simply put the team on his shoulders and willed them to victory! Brunson finished with 39 points (7-10 shooting from 3PT), 6 assists, and 2 steals.
There's No "I" in Team
While Brunson was undoubtedly the player of the game, he wasn’t alone in the effort. Mikal Bridges continued his strong play, contributing 18 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals, providing a steady scoring presence and defensive versatility. OG Anunoby and Josh Hart combined for 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists, showcasing their all-around impact. Despite battling foul trouble, Karl-Anthony Towns recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Impressively, this marked Towns’ 17th consecutive game with a double-double, tying Patrick Ewing for the fourth-longest streak in Knicks history!
Pelicans Are Going NOWHERE...
The Pelicans' season continues on a downward spiral. Missing stars Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, they leaned heavily on younger players like Trey Murphy III, who led the team with an impressive 26 points. Despite holding the lead for much of the game, New Orleans couldn’t withstand the Knicks’ and Brunson’s second-half surge. This marked the Pelicans’ sixth consecutive loss.
The Weird Shenanigans Continue!
First, it was two individuals running onto the court during the Minnesota game, and now we have a peculiar incident in the second quarter of this game. The Pelicans received a technical foul after a towel boy appeared to stall play by wiping down an already clean court during a Knicks’ inbound attempt. It felt like an intentional attempt to disrupt the Knicks’ rhythm but ultimately aided the Knicks when it became a delay of game warning resulting in a Knicks free throw.
What craziness will we see next? There seems to be a new trend of bizarre incidents at Knicks games lately.
What’s Next?!
